What Is It?

Laser therapy goes by many names: low-level light therapy, cold laser therapy and low-level laser therapy. Whatever you call it, it’s an excellent addition to your healing regimen! It works by directing specific frequencies of light into the affected area. The light is absorbed by the cells and used by the mitochondria to produce more energy at the cellular level. This reaction improves blood flow to the injured tissues, reducing inflammation and facilitating healing. At Cahill Back & Neck Care Center, we use the state-of-the-art Erchonia Dual Laser, which emits both violet and red light, and we have access to several hundred specific protocols for helping to heal specific conditions.

Who It Helps

Low-level light therapy is useful in a very wide range of conditions, such as:

  • Inflammation
  • Chronic pain
  • Acute injury
  • Arthritis
  • Edema/swelling
  • Wound healing

What to Expect

The laser has to make direct contact with the skin over the affected area, so you’ll want to wear clothing that allows skin access—for example, shorts for a knee injury or a tank top for shoulder issues. You won’t feel the laser at all during your 5-10-minute session—but you’ll feel the results! Many patients experience some relief immediately, although it often takes several sessions to achieve full healing.

Is It Safe?

This type of therapy is extremely well-researched and very safe. Unlike industrial lasers, this is a high-energy but low-power laser that produces no heat. This therapy is FDA-approved and safe for all ages.
